What is the difference between a realtor and a real estate agent in Alberta?

In Alberta, a real estate associate is someone who holds a valid RECA licence and works under a brokerage to help clients buy and sell property. A broker has completed additional education and can operate independently or oversee a team of associates. Both must be licensed through RECA to work legally. The most important step is verifying that an Alberta agent's licence is current and active.

A Realtor with a capital R is a trademark of the Canadian Real Estate Association. Only CREA members can use that title. Realtors commit to a code of ethics beyond what RECA requires. In practice, most licensed agents in Calgary are also Realtors. Find licensed real estate agents in Calgary to get started.
