What is the standard real estate commission in Alberta?

In Alberta, real estate commissions are fully negotiable. There is no government-set standard rate. Many Calgary agents use a sliding scale, charging a higher percentage on the first portion of the sale price and a lower rate on the rest. Total commissions for both agents combined often fall between 3 and 5 percent of the sale price. To understand whether buyers pay any part of this fee, that is covered separately.

The total commission is split between the listing agent and the buyer's agent, with each sharing part of their cut with their brokerage. When you interview agents, ask each one to explain their commission structure clearly and what services are included. Compare real estate agents in Calgary to find a good match.
