About The Arts Residences
The current 15-storey tower was built between 1972 and 1974 by Bird Construction for about $5 million, designed by Helmut J. Peters, and it replaced the 1922–23 Medical Arts Building that stood immediately north. It held offices for more than 150 physicians and dentists, laboratories, two pharmacies and two optical dispensaries. Sold in 2017, it was converted from 2019 into ground-floor retail, second-floor offices and residential suites above.
The building leans into its address: a collection of commissioned paintings and murals by local artists runs through the common areas, drawing on the Ojibwe lunar calendar. Amenities include a fitness centre, a yoga room and a social lounge, alongside in-suite laundry and storage and roughly 14,000 square feet of commercial space. Central Park is at the door, and the Winnipeg Art Gallery and the Legislative grounds are a short walk.
Suite counts disagree: the Manitoba Historical Society says 96 residential suites, while Hazelview's award announcement says 104 new rental units. Sunrex lists the postal code as R3C 1T1; Google and Canada Post give R3C 3J5.
